Ayon kay Prop. Emmanuel de Dios ng UP School of Economics, noong 1965 nang maging Pangulo si Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., mas mataas ang GDP ng mga bansang Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, at Sri Lanka. Panglima lamang ang Pilipinas at hindi pangalawa katulad ng nasa mga fake news. Mula 1975 hanggang 1985, naunahan ng Thailand ang GDP ng Pilipinas. Ayon rin sa pag-aaral nina Prop. Hall Hill ng Australian National University at Prop. Arsenio Balisacan ng Philippine Competition Commission, ang GDP per capita ng Pilipinas noong 1975 ay mas mababa sa Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, at Korea.
