Kuwestiyonable ang mga parangal ni Marcos. Wala siya sa database ng mga nakatanggap ng National Medal of Honor o Congressional Medal of Honor Society, kahit nandoon ang ibang Pilipinong sundalo ng World War II, tulad ni Rudolph Davila at Jose Calugas. Wala rin siya sa opisyal na website ng Purple Heart at Distinguished Service Cross.
Ayon kay John Sharkey ng Washington Post sa kanyang pananaliksik ng arkibo ng militar at gobyerno ng US, walang ebidensya na binigyan si Ferdinand Marcos ng Distinguished Service Cross. Batay din sa imbestigasyon ng US army, walang matatag na katibayan na mayroon gerilya unit na pinumunuan ni Marcos na tinawag niyang “Ang Mga Maharlika” (Gerth; LA Times Archives).
